"Supportive" is the word that best describes ASL.
Professors are approachable and available, staff members are there to assist students at every turn, and fellow students want each other to succeed.
Unlike many law schools, ASL does not have a cutthroat environment. In fact, during the first year, ASL does not rank its students. That way, competition is between students and their coursework versus between one another.
ASL cultivates an environment of cooperation, support, and collaboration. It strives to challenge students to succeed, but also gives them the tools they need to do so. Students do not have to wait for weeks to schedule an appointment to see their professors. Instead, professors make themselves available and are even willing to meet students over a cup of coffee, lunch, or dinner.
ASL students also bond through community service activities, such as:
ASL supports efforts to find a cure for cancer
Relay For Life is part of ASL's community service efforts. This year, "Team Sandy" is dedicated to Associate Dean, Sandy McGlothlin, who has been fighting breast cancer. Relay For Life is scheduled for August 5, 2011.
