Professor Doug McKechnie was awarded with ASL's annual Faculty Scholarship Award earlier this month. His article, "The Death of the Public Figure Doctrine: How the Internet and the Westboro Baptist Church Spawned a Keller" will be published in the University of California's Hastings College of Law Journal in the fall. The article focuses on whether the Supreme Court's public figure/private figure dichotomy announced in Gertz v. Robert Welch, Inc. should be abandoned in light of the Internet and Supreme Court jurisprudence.
McKechnie, who joined ASL in 2008 after practicing law in Pittsburgh, is an expert on civil liberties as well as labor and employment law. He recently served as a panelist during ASL and Wellmont Health System's joint panel on health care reform.
