ASL has been named one of the nation's "top law schools for externships" by preLaw magazine. The fall 2011 edition of the publication ranked ASL 9th in the nation for externship placements.
PreLaw examined enrollment data and percentage of externships to compile the rankings, noting that externship placements have risen 45 percent nationally since 2001.
ASL's externship program is a crucial component of the school's commitment to providing a practical legal education. The summer after their 1L year, all students complete at least 200 hours of work in a judge's chambers, public law office, or public interest organization under the direct supervision of a licensed attorney. The opportunity gives them hands-on experience and a chance to begin making contacts in the legal profession.
