Emma Jones has been a practicing criminal defense attorney in eastern Kentucky for over ten years, handling cases ranging from DUI to capital murder. Emma has lived in Appalachia most of her life, raising a family and working. She came to the Appalachian School of Law as a nontraditional student, graduating in 2004, after a career working for the elderly and disabled as an advocate. She was on the Dean’s List all six semesters at the law school. While at the law school she competed in Negotiation Competitions and helped coach Negotiation Teams who went on to national competitions. Emma has participated in multiple presentations for several years at the Appalachian Studies Conference through the Appalachian Studies Association.

Emma is married to John Howie, a professor at the University of Pikeville. They have four sons and three granddaughters.
