Nestled in downtown Grundy amidst the majestic Central Appalachian Mountains, the Appalachian School of Law provides an exhilarating, yet challenging environment to pursue the Juris Doctor degree. Our new campus, marked by traditional architecture, contains modern classrooms, seminar rooms, moot court rooms, lounge and offices; state of the art computers and interactive communications technology; and a solid, growing library collection.
Since its founding, the Appalachian School of Law has provided an experiential focus, teaching lawyering skills and requiring significant exposure to practical law so that its students can “hit the ground running” after finishing the three year curriculum. We have been doing for over a decade what other schools are now beginning to embrace.
ASL is unique among law schools in valuing prior practice experience in its instructors, bringing into the academic community teachers who have been in court, in corporate boardrooms, in transactional negotiations, representing real-world clients. That approach to “experiential” emphasis clearly comes through in the relationships that develop between students and teachers at ASL.
Visit our campus, and speak with our students, faculty and staff. Consider our emphasis on professionalism, problem solving, skills development, community service, and the role of lawyers in modern society.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I invite you to join our community of learning and continue your preparation for a career in the field of law.
