Welcome
to the Appalachian School of Law. As ASL enters the second
decade of existence, we offer an exciting opportunity for
law students to engage in institution-building while obtaining
a proven, quality legal education.
The academic program of ASL is intentionally designed to
reflect the meaning of a “professional” education
and the unique roles that lawyers are expected to fulfill
in our modern society, as community leaders as well as individual
counselors.
To that end, to develop the best professionals, the academic
program emphasizes ethics and professional responsibility,
experiential and skills training for refinement of practical
legal judgment, and training of the lawyer as problem solver.
Those aspects of the program compliment and enhance our
traditional, essential core of doctrinal legal courses.
As privileged professionals, lawyers have an obligation
to foster equality and justice through the law, increasingly
embodied in “pro bono” requirements imposed
as a condition for retaining good standing before the various
state bar associations. Our school’s program of community
service provides advanced exposure to the value and benefits
of this important aspect of professional responsibility.
Travel through this website, review our materials, visit
our school and community, talk to our students and faculty.
We offer a law school experience with a difference. Please
