For Thursday, February 13th, 2020:
Morning Classes are Cancelled

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for this area beginning today at 4:00 p.m. and ending at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow. As such, all classes at ASL with a normal start time before 12:00 Noon are cancelled for Thursday, February 13th. Per ASL’s policy, any classes scheduled to begin after 12:00 Noon will start and end on a normal schedule. Professors may choose to cancel individual classes, but it is their responsibility to notify students and staff. Staff reports for work at 11:00 a.m. Schedule changes for meetings and events are the responsibility of the event organizer.

If flooding occurs, please use extreme caution. In an emergency situation, dial 911. In non-emergency situations, you may call dispatchers with the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office at 276-935-2313. You may check VDOT’s Road Conditions Table at https://www.511virginia.org/mobile/?menu_id=conditions. If necessary, the Buchanan County Emergency Management Office will establish an official shelter at Riverview Elementary/Middle School (27382 Riverside Drive; Grundy, VA 24614) to help residents and will provide travel assistance to the shelter. Please, call one of the numbers listed above if you need such assistance.

 


When hazardous weather conditions occur in the immediate area, ASL may operate on an altered or delayed schedule.  Please, refer to the following options when you receive an announcement regarding schedule changes.  Regardless of required schedule alterations, ASL students will have card access to the Library (and Security on duty) as set forth at:  (http://www.asl.edu/hours/).  The Circulation Desk may not be staffed, however.

Schedule Options: 

1 Hour Delay:

  • All classes for the specific day will start and end one (1) hour later than normally scheduled. If a class is scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m., it will start at 10:00 a.m.
  • Professors may choose to cancel individual classes, but it is their responsibility to notify students and staff.
  • Staff reports for work at 9:00 a.m.
  • Schedule changes for meetings and events are the responsibility of the event organizer.

Morning Classes Cancelled:

  • All classes with a normal start time before 12:00 Noon are cancelled for the day. Any classes scheduled to begin after 12:00 Noon will start and end on a normal schedule.
  • Professors may choose to cancel individual classes, but it is their responsibility to notify students and staff.

Classes Cancelled/Campus Open:

  • All classes for the day are cancelled. Campus will open at 11:00 a.m.
  • Staff reports for work at 11:00 a.m.
  • Schedule changes for meetings and events are the responsibility of the event organizer.

Classes Cancelled/Campus Closed:

  • All classes, meetings and events for the day are cancelled.
  • All offices will be closed to Students, Employees and Visitors.
  • The Law Library will maintain card access for ASL students.
