In addition to preparing for the upcoming year, SBA closed out the school year with a continued commitment to service. At the final meeting of the year, members took suggestions from the floor and voted to donate remaining SBA funds to organizations and initiatives that directly impact both the local community and ASL students.
This year, SBA donated funds to the statewide Legal Food Frenzy, a program that raises support for local food pantries through Feeding Southwest Virginia and helps combat food insecurity across the region.
SBA also contributed to Stack the Shelf, an initiative founded by ASL alumna Kelsey Hall (Class of 2024), which provides essential hygiene products to all Buchanan County high schools. The program ensures that students have access to basic necessities in a way that preserves dignity and eliminates barriers to attendance and success.
Additionally, funds were directed to the Summer Stay in Grundy Program, which supports recent ASL graduates during their bar preparation period. The program helps offset living expenses so graduates can remain in Grundy, support local businesses, and dedicate their full attention to studying for the bar exam with the goal of passing on their first attempt.
ASL congratulates the incoming SBA officers and commends the Student Bar Association for continuing to lead with service, generosity, and a strong connection to the community.
