Appalachian School of Law welcomed eight students from Bluefield University to campus this past Friday for a firsthand look at law school and the opportunities available through the institutions’ 3+3 partnership.
The visiting students, ranging from freshmen to juniors, toured the ASL campus, sat in on a law school class, and met with Dean Will Thompson and third-year student Travis Honaker, a Bluefield University alumnus.
Honaker was able to offer students a personal perspective on the transition from undergraduate study at Bluefield University to legal education at ASL.
The visit also provided an opportunity to highlight the 3+3 partnership between Bluefield University and Appalachian School of Law. Through the accelerated pathway, qualified students may begin law school during what would traditionally be their fourth year of undergraduate study, allowing them to complete both their bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctor in six years rather than seven.
The structure can help reduce the overall time and cost of earning both degrees while providing students with earlier exposure to legal education.
For ASL, campus visits are an important part of strengthening these academic partnerships. They allow students to experience the law school environment firsthand, observe classroom instruction, meet members of the ASL community, and begin considering how a legal education may fit into their future plans.
Appalachian School of Law looks forward to continuing to strengthen its partnership with Bluefield University and expanding opportunities for students interested in pursuing careers in the legal profession.
