This past fall, as many students were preparing for finals, three of our students at Appalachian School of Law were setting up a table in the library to tackle an entry assignment for the American Red Cross’s Clara Barton International Humanitarian Law Competition. Students were presented with a case file, which outlined a mock international conflict arising between several countries. Students then sifted through the facts to answer questions related to international humanitarian law, namely whether the actions of certain countries qualified as international armed conflict under the numerous international treaties. The development of their responses spanned the course of two days and countless hours, but, we are thrilled to report that ASL will be competing in the competition from March 22-24, 2024 at the American Red Cross’s headquarters in Washington DC! The ASL IHL Competition team will be coached by Interim President and Dean D.J. Western.
