Appalachian School of Law is proud to announce that we are a Virginia Law Foundation 2023 Grant recipient. With an award of $25,000 in support of our Medical-Legal Partnership, a collaboration with Ballad Health and Virginia Tech’s Pamplin College of Business, we look forward to using these funds to further our mission, and the mission of the VLF. ASL students who participate in our MLP Clinic provide free legal services, under the supervision of licensed attorneys, to low-income healthcare patients in southwest Virginia, aimed at positively impacting the social determinants of health.
The Virginia Law Foundation has announced its 2023 grant recipients and awards $707,390 to 32 organizations. Since the establishment of its grants program in 1984, the VLF has awarded more than $28 million in grants to initiatives and nonprofits throughout Virginia aligning with the VLF’s three-pronged mission:
To increase access to justice by improving access to legal support for the underserved and to support those offering competent, pro bono or affordable legal representation
To foster an appreciation for and understanding of the Rule of Law in society
To educate the general population on the Rule of Law and to cultivate the next generation of citizen lawyers
To honor and award this year’s grants, the Virginia Law Foundation hosted their Grants Luncheon on August 24, 2023 in Richmond, Virginia. Images courtesy of the Virginia Law Foundation.
