ASL Students Take Negotiations Class Outdoors on Earth Day at Breaks Interstate Park

On Tuesday, April 14, Dean Will Thompson took his Negotiations and Strategy class beyond the traditional classroom setting to the Stateline Overlook at Breaks Interstate Park.

Surrounded by one of the most breathtaking views in the region, students engaged in a hands-on role play designed to strengthen their mediation skills. The exercise focused on practical techniques mediators can use when negotiations reach an impasse, encouraging students to think critically and adapt in real time.

As we recognize Earth Day, experiences like this highlight the value of connecting education with the natural environment. Experiential learning remains a cornerstone of the Appalachian School of Law’s approach to legal education, preparing students through meaningful, real-world application.
