Appalachian School of Law is proud to recognize rising second-year student Emily Gearheart for her selection as an Equal Justice Works Rural Summer Legal Corps Student Fellow with AppalReD Legal Aid.
A native of Pikeville, Kentucky, Gearheart is spending the summer working in AppalReD’s Prestonsburg office, where she is gaining practical experience while helping provide legal services to communities throughout Central Appalachia.
According to AppalReD Legal Aid, Gearheart is excited to pursue her passion while gaining valuable insight into both the law and the communities she hopes to serve. She also expressed enthusiasm about learning through hands-on experience and being mentored by experienced attorneys.
Opportunities like the Rural Summer Legal Corps program reflect Appalachian School of Law’s commitment to experiential learning and service to underserved communities. Through placements with organizations such as AppalReD Legal Aid, students are able to develop the practical skills and professional relationships that prepare them for meaningful careers in public service.
