The Appalachian School of Law is proud to recognize eleven students who were recently sworn in as Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) in Buchanan County Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court.
Administered by the Honorable Laura Faye O’Quinn, the oath marks the completion of a comprehensive training program designed by the Virginia CASA Network. This program equips volunteers with the knowledge and skills necessary to advocate for children involved in the court system.
As CASA volunteers, these students will serve children in Buchanan and Russell Counties by monitoring court orders, recommending services, and providing informed updates to the court to support decisions that prioritize each child’s best interests.
ASL students sworn in include:
Lane Clark, Naidaly Gonzalez Miranda, Brittany Rowe, Kaiyana Simmons, Sarah Peery, Kobe Arhinful, Allie Minor, John Phipps, Kota Graziano, Kathleen Powalie, and Khalil Craddock.
This milestone reflects the school’s continued commitment to service, advocacy, and preparing students for meaningful legal careers that extend beyond the classroom.
