Appalachian School of Law is proud to welcome Makaily Lockwood to the Class of 2029.
Originally from Salt Lake City, Utah, Makaily earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Utah, completing double majors in Political Science and Criminology along with double minors in Business and Sociology.
During her campus visit, she quickly realized that Appalachian School of Law was the place where she belonged.
“After touring the school and spending time with the students and staff, it became clear to me that this law school is the right fit for me because its values align with my own,” Makaily shared. “It welcomed me with warmth and acceptance and made me feel at home.”
For Makaily, ASL’s commitment to individualized attention, strong faculty relationships, and service to others stood out immediately.
“The community is friendly and caring, with a deep commitment to student success, supported by small class sizes that provide individualized attention and close access to professors, and a strong commitment to serving others,” she said.
She has already begun embracing the culture of Southwest Virginia, enjoying local businesses and experiencing firsthand the hospitality that makes Appalachia unique. From Utah to Grundy, Makaily has found a community that feels like home.
We are honored to welcome her to Appalachian School of Law and look forward to watching her grow, learn, and thrive as a member of the Class of 2029.
