A Week with Judge Thacker at ASL

A Week with Judge Thacker at ASL

On Wednesday, April 8, the Appalachian School of Law welcomed Judge Stephanie Dawn Thacker for an open luncheon with students.

The event, open to all ASL students, created a space for meaningful conversation and engagement, allowing attendees to gain insight into both Judge Thacker’s career and her service on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

Before her appointment to the bench, Judge Thacker spent more than two decades in legal practice, including service as a federal prosecutor with the United States Department of Justice. Her experience across criminal prosecution, defense, and civil litigation provided students with a well-rounded perspective on the legal profession.

During her remarks, Judge Thacker encouraged students to be intentional in their careers and prepared for opportunity, emphasizing the importance of documenting their work and experiences throughout their professional journey.

The luncheon served as a meaningful introduction to a week of engagement, offering students the opportunity to connect directly with a distinguished member of the judiciary.

Stay tuned as we continue to highlight Judge Thacker’s time on campus and her engagement with ASL students throughout the week.
