The Appalachian International Law Society at the Appalachian School of Law has shared a message with the ASL community recognizing the beginning of Ramadan and the Christian season of Lent.
As one of the School’s newest student organizations, the Appalachian International Law Society seeks to promote global awareness, cross-cultural understanding, and a deeper commitment to human rights and the rule of law. In its inaugural message to the campus community, the Society reflects on the shared values represented in these sacred seasons.
Below is the full message from the Appalachian International Law Society:
Dear Members of the Appalachian School of Law Community,
As the blessed month of Ramadan begins, the Appalachian International Law Society extends its warmest wishes to all those observing around the world and within our community.
Ramadan is a time of deep spiritual reflection, self-discipline, and renewal. It is a month rooted in faith, compassion, and gratitude — a time when individuals are called to strengthen their relationship with God, practice patience, and extend kindness to others. Beyond fasting from dawn to sunset, Ramadan is a reminder of the importance of humility, generosity, and empathy, particularly toward those who are less fortunate.
At its core, Ramadan teaches values that transcend borders, cultures, and legal systems: justice, mercy, dignity, and respect for all human beings. These principles closely align with the mission of the Appalachian International Law Society, which strives to promote global awareness, cross-cultural understanding, and a deeper commitment to human rights and the rule of law.
In a world that often feels divided, Ramadan offers a powerful message of unity. It reminds us that despite our differences, we share common values — faith, hope, and the desire for peace. It is a time to come together, to listen, to learn, and to uplift one another with compassion and understanding.
We stand in solidarity with all those observing Ramadan and celebrate the beauty of its message — a message of love, resilience, and faith. May this month bring peace to hearts, strength to those in hardship, and hope to communities around the world.
At the same time, we also recognize the beginning of Lent, a sacred season of reflection, sacrifice, and spiritual renewal observed by Christians around the world. Lent calls for prayer, repentance, and acts of compassion, encouraging individuals to grow in faith and extend love and service to others.
That these two holy seasons begin together this year is a powerful reminder of our shared humanity and the common values that unite us — faith, humility, and the pursuit of peace.
Ramadan Mubarak and a blessed Lenten season.
The Appalachian School of Law is proud to support the formation of the Appalachian International Law Society and the meaningful dialogue it brings to campus.
